(Now offering Online Therapy!!!)
My name is Kim Clark and I am a Private Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT) serving the Amarillo, Texas area. If you have a child who is struggling with reading, please take the time to explore this site and let me know if I can answer any of your questions. I would love the opportunity to work with you and your child. I believe with all my heart that EVERY child is “fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalms 139:14) It is my goal to encourage your child by building on his or her strengths while we work on the weaker areas. Every child can learn to read and it is such a joy to see the “light come on” and see their eyes light up when they finally start to understand and truly “get it”! I will give them a “toolbox” of strategies that will take them through the rest of their lives. Thank you for visiting this site.
What is a Certified Academic Language Therapist?
A Certified Academic Language Therapist or CALT is a person who has been certified by the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA). They have completed extensive training in multi-sensory structured language teaching based on the work from Orton-Gillingham. The training and examination requirements are the same for both a CALT and a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist. Therapists undergo 2 years of comprehensive training and are required to have 700 clinical hours while being mentored by a qualified instructor.
Is Academic Language Therapy different from Tutoring?
Yes! Tutoring usually denotes extra help in a certain subject or area of difficulty and is offered as a support service.
Academic Language Therapy is an intense, systematic service that is therapeutic in nature. It is an educational, structured, comprehensive, phonetic, multi-sensory approach for the remediation of dyslexia and/or written-language disorders.
